New Head of School of Economics

Professor Alan Carruth has been formally appointed as Head of the School of Economics with effect from 1 January 2010.

Professor Carruth is nationally known for his work in labour economics, macroeconomics and applied econometrics. He is currently a member of the Conference of Heads of University Departments of Economics (CHUDE) and the Work Pensions and Labour Economics Study Group (WPEG) Steering Committees. He was also deputy chair of RAE 2008 sub panel 34, Economics and Econometrics.

Professor Carruth has been Acting Head of the School following the appointment of Professor Roger Vickerman as Dean of the University of Kent at Brussels. Professor Rob Fraser, Professor of Agricultural Economics, will act as Deputy Head of the School.
