G 14990 Verso

G 14990 verso: Dimensions: 16 x 5.9 cm. Date: mid-II to mid-I century BC. Provenance unknown (Hermopolite nome?). An unpublished subliterary text of late Hellenistic date containing a treatise on aspects of classical and post-classical Greek literature, comedy, mime and history (?). This fragment is being prepared for publication by C. La’da and A. Papathomas. The text mentions Aristophanes, Sophron, the most famous exponent of the so-called Syracusan mime, [Men]ander, a Timotheos (probably an Athenian comedy writer rather than Timotheos of Miletus) and [Kleom]enes, the guardian (445/4-427/6 BC) of the Spartan king Pausanias, who ruled between 445/4 and 427/6 and again between 408/7 and 395/4 BC.
