St Patrick’s Day

St Patrick’s Day occurs annually on March 17 in observance of the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It began as a religious feast day in the 17th century and has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, music, dancing, Irish foods and a whole lot of green.

There are traditionally 40 days in Lent; in modern times, observers of Lent give up something they enjoy, like chocolate or wine and often invest the time or money saved in charitable purposes or organisations. So what are you giving up?

Poppy Appeal

100th Anniversary Poppy Appeal

The Royal Naval Association will be holding a commemorative service outside the Drill Hall Library on Sunday 10th September 2017.

This service is a public event to commemorate the 131 men who lost their lives during the WWI bombing raid of the Drill Hall on 3rd September, 1917.

During the weeks before the service there will be a display of handmade poppies in the Drill Hall Library.

If you would like to contribute to this display by hand-crafting or knitting poppies, please email to  dhl-feedback@gre.ac.uk
