Stage 2 & 3
The second year offers an in-depth analysis of the theoretical and criminal justice dimensions of criminology. This is also where student paths in criminology start diverging as a variety of optional modules allow you to explore your topics of interest! From the second year onward, students can opt, next to the five Criminology UG programmes we offer, for criminology with a term/year abroad.
Core Criminology Modules
These year-longĀ modules are compulsory Stage 2 modules accross all Criminology programmes (except the year abroad).
- SOCI5050. Theories of Crime and Harm (30 credits) – Autumn & Spring
- SOCI5360. Criminal Justice in Modern Britain: Development, Issues and Politics (30 credits) – Autumn & Spring
However, in stage 2 as well, each criminology programme adds another unique set of compulsory modules (see the next section).
Stage 3 has no compulsory modules.
Build Your Programme!
Full-time students have to take modules amounting to a total of 120 credits – 60 credits in Autumn & 60 credits in Spring at both Stage 2 and Stage 3 (so a total of 240 Credits over the two Stages). Students are to build their own criminology course along the subject requirements for each programme. These are listed in the LSSJ Stage 2 & 3 Module Handbook.
- At least 90 Credits must be taken at Level 6 during Stage 3 to be eligible for an Honours degree.
- You must ensure that you choose an even weighting of credits in each term:
- 60 Credits in the Autumn
- 60 Credits in the Spring
- No Level 4 modules can be taken at Stage 3.
