Further to our last post: we now have 5 extra spaces available on the Shepherd Neame Brewery Tour (Thursday 16th July) and 25 more places on the walking tour of Canterbury. If you’d like to book a place on either or both of these events, then please email email@example.com as soon as possible.

This is great news, of course, but it means that there is some pressure on the social programme. At the moment, the tour of Shepherd Neame Brewery is full (we’re proud of you all). The walking tour of Canterbury is also fully booked. However, we are trying our best to get some more places made available for both happenings. There’ll be another announcement posted here as soon as we have news, and we will endeavour to contact those of you who have expressed an interest personally. In the meantime, sincere apologies to any of you who have been disappointed when trying to book onto one or the other of these events.
The moral of the story is: if you are yet to register, please do so as soon as possible. As ever, if you have any questions, queries or problems, then contact the organising team on PALA2015@kent.ac.uk.
We have received a very large number of excellent abstracts – a real tribute to the strength of our subject. In order to accommodate as many of these submissions as possible, we have elected to start the conference at around 1pm on the 15th. Now, we realise that this may present problems for those of your travelling some distance with a view to arriving on the 15th.
However, it is possible to book rooms on campus for the evening of the 14th (from the 12th, in fact, if you’re really keen) at a very reasonable price, allowing delegates to arrive in plenty of time. You can also extend your stay until the 20th should you wish. The registration pages for both the main conference and the summer school are being finalised as we speak and will go live over the next couple of days.
With over 200 abstracts now in, it’s taking us some time to read and assess them all. We will be sending out decision emails by the end of this week (Friday 6th March).
We apologise for the delay, but are delighted that the conference is proving so popular with colleagues across the world.
Applications for bursaries to support students (both postgraduate and undergraduate) presenting at this year’s PALA conference in Kent are now open. The form can be found here: http://www.pala.ac.uk/the-pala-student-bursary.html. The deadline for applications is 6 March. You are encouraged to apply before you know whether or not your abstract has been accepted. Once you have completed your section of the form, please pass it to your referee or supervisor, who should complete their section and email it to the PALA Treasurer, Joe Bray, at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be notified of whether or not your application has been successful by the end of March. Please do email the Treasurer if you have any questions about the process.
In addition to the student bursary, PALA also offers small bursaries from the Roger Fowler/ Mary Ellen Ryder fund to support those wishing to attend the conference who are either unwaged or from developing countries. The fund is maintained by the generous donations of PALA members and others, and the number of bursaries that are able to be awarded depends on available funds. If you wish to make an application for a bursary from this fund please contact Joe Bray at email@example.com.
Thank you very much for your abstracts, and for the interest you have shown in the conference. We will be reading abstracts throughout February and will be contacting you with a decision by the end of the month or early in March. In the case of papers submitted to one of the various SIGs, you should contact the organiser(s) of that SIG for a decision about your submission.
