Congratulations to all our final year students who are graduating this week.

Due to the impact of coronavirus, this week our students graduate in absentia, however we hope to join you in a celebration ceremony at a later date. As a short token, our staff have recorded their congratulations, which may be viewed below.

All in the School of Arts are incredibly proud of our students’ accomplishments in these challenging times, and recognise their hard work.

To celebrate, we continue the tradition of a prize giving to recognise our students’ achievements throughout their studies, debuting at 12pm today.

The prize-winners are:

Drama and Theatre

  • The School of Arts Acting Prize, awarded to a graduating student for the best work in practical acting assessments across the duration of their degree, goes to both Rachel Dowsett, BA (Hons) in Drama and English & American Literature, and Amy Hunnable, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre.
  • The Drama Eliot Prize for Citizenship, goes to Sophia Lyons, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre, and Madeleine Jones, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre.
  • The Drama Technical Excellence Award, awarded to final-year drama students who have shown the greatest commitment and excellence in technical theatre, goes to Yannis Grimm, BA (Hons) in Film and Drama.
  • The Eric Barker Prize, awarded to a Stage 3 or 4 student in the School of Arts who has achieved the highest result in work related to comedy, goes to both Victor Pang, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre, and Alfred White, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre.
  • The Vanessa Forrest Prize, awarded for the best all-round performance by a Stage 2 Drama student, goes to Alexandra Scott, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre.
  • The School of Arts Recognition Prize, nominated by members of the Department of Drama and Theatre for outstanding work and/or performance, goes to Ogochukwu Anokwuru, BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre.
  • The Stage 1 Prize, awarded to the highest achiever in Drama modules in their first year, and drawn from single and joint honours students, goes to Alexander Charilaou, BA (Hons) in Drama and English & American Literature.

Film and Media Studies

  • The Best Writing Prize for the best piece of writing submitted for a Film module at Stage III, goes to Ariadna Vrljanovic-Zhao, BA (Hons) in Film and Drama.
  • The Martin Walsh Prize, endowed by Mr and Mrs R St J Walsh in memory of their son Martin, and awarded for best performance in the final degree examinations in Film Studies, goes to George Turner, BA (Hons) in Film.
  • The Michael Grant Horror Prize, devoted to the undergraduate student who makes the most innovative contribution in horror film studies as determined by Film Board, goes to Nyomi Jacobs, BA (Hons) in Film.
  • The School of Arts Recognition Prize for Film, nominated by members of the Department of Film for outstanding work and/or performance, goes to Tommy-Joe Brown, BA (Hons) in Film, and Katie Head, BA (Hons) in Film.
  • The School of Arts Recognition Prize for Media Studies, nominated by members of Department of Media for outstanding work and/or performance, goes to Enoch (Seun) Odubade, BA (Hons) in Media Studies.

Art History

  • The School of Arts Recognition Prize, students nominated by members of the Department of Art HIstory for outstanding work and/or performance, goes to Benjamin Dawkins, BA (Hons) in Art History, and Emily Harman, BA (Hons) in Art History.
  • The Bann Prize for History & Philosophy of Art, endowed by Professor Stephen Bann FBA, Chair of the Board of Studies from 1985 to 2000, in memory of his parents. This prize is awarded for the best overall performance in Stage 2+ in History & Philosophy of Art, and this year the award goes to Marie Meyer, on the BA (Hons) in Art History.
  • The Kate Zaks Memorial Prize in Art History, endowed by Greg and Viola Zaks, in memory of their daughter, awarded to the highest achieving History & Philosophy of Art honours student at Stage 2, goes to Sid Connor, on the BA (Hons) in Art History and Film.
