In collaboration with the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC) we are embarking on a skills survey for our IT & technical community at Kent.
This is an exciting opportunity for us and our IT & technical services workforce. This survey will:
- Provide the opportunity for IT & technical services staff to assess their current skills and to plan for future professional development
- Enable technical managers and directors of operations to identify potential future skill shortages or single points of failure, to include this in succession plans, training and recruitment planning
- To raise the profile of our IT and technical workforce by showcasing the wide range of skills, domain specific knowledge and expertise they have
- Identify local areas of expertise and practice for potential internal job shadowing, training and/or work experience
- Identify the potentially unknown skills in our technical workforce and explore ways in which these skills can be shared to develop our technical workforce
- Inform discussions when researchers are considering buying out technician time from technical services for grant applications and contracts
The survey will support our wider objectives that we are undertaking as part of our Technician Commitment action plan, which aims to improve the visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability of our skilled IT & technical services staff.
We are inviting all IT & Technical Services staff at the University of Kent to complete the survey.
