Fancy getting outdoors in these cold days? Turning the winter blues green…
A visit to the Kent Community Oasis Garden (also known as KentCOG) garden down by the sports fields on the Canterbury campus might be exactly the winter pick-me-up tonic you need.
We are inviting you to come along to the garden any Wednesday or Friday and have a go at growing. You can turn up anytime between 10am and 2pm on our gardening days and stay as long as you feel is right for you.
The KentCOG garden is a multiuse, accessible, safe space where everyone is welcome – students, staff and the community. It provides opportunities to engage with sustainable food, biodiversity, gardening, community action and mental health and wellbeing activities. Come along and make new friends, spend some time outdoors, build skills and confidence and connect with others. Our KentCOG blog gives the schedule of all latest activities and workshops coming up. You can also follow @Kent_Community_Oasis_Garden on Instagram for reminders of what’s happening and growing tips to implement wherever you are!
We offer 2 weekly sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays for participants to engage with general gardening activities. Individuals can just turn up and spend between 1 and 4 hours per session outdoors, working with our facilitators, Debi and Emily and join the team.
You can also come along to one of our monthly Saturday Wellbeing sessions focused on developing and maintaining wellbeing for all, delivered by our partner organisation, East Kent Mind. Or perhaps a Seasonal Sundays session is just what you’re looking for, focussed on sustainability and exploring our connection with the natural environment. This term it’s a bee walk, so let’s hope those bumblebees are flying. Listen to a recent podcast to find out more
Everyone is welcome, so get your boots on, come along and see what’s growing.
