This week, the Graduate and Researcher College (GRC), in collaboration with the Careers and Employability Service, welcomed postgraduate researchers to our annual Career Planning Beyond Academia event.
Over two engaging days, PGRs had the opportunity to explore the wide range of career opportunities available beyond academia, hear first-hand from alumni who have successfully transitioned into different sectors, and take part in interactive activities designed to build confidence and support career planning.
It was fantastic to see so many researchers engaging with the sessions, asking thoughtful questions and reflecting on how they can apply the knowledge and skills gained through their doctoral studies to a variety of career paths.
A particular highlight of the event was hearing from our alumni and guest speakers, who generously shared their career journeys, experiences and practical advice. Their openness provided valuable insights into navigating career transitions and demonstrated the diverse opportunities available to PhD graduates.
We hope the event has given our researchers greater clarity, confidence and practical tools to help them explore and plan their future careers, wherever those may lead.
Events like these are only possible through collaboration, and we’d like to thank everyone who contributed to making the event such a success, particularly our colleagues in the Careers and Employability Service, our alumni speakers, and everyone who attended.
Finally, a special thank you goes to Dr Jo Collins, whose enthusiasm, dedication and hard work played a key role in delivering another successful event for our postgraduate research community.
We look forward to continuing to support our researchers as they explore their career ambitions and take the next steps in their professional journeys.
