Returned to campus with a new phone or device?

Any new phone or device used to access University systems (such as Outlook, OneDrive or Teams) will need MFA set up.

What is MFA?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Kent IT Account. Alongside your password, it asks you to confirm your identity using a second method — usually a notification or code sent to your phone.

You cannot access University systems on devices that do not have MFA set up.

How to set it up?

  1. Log In: Access any Kent online service (e.g., email, Microsoft 365, Moodle). When it asks for more information, click Next.
  2. Microsoft Authenticator App: When prompted, select and download this app as your primary method (recommended).
  3. Set Up Backup Authentication: Add a secondary method like SMS or phone call to ensure access if your primary method is unavailable.
  4. Follow On-Screen Instructions: Complete the setup by following the prompts provided.
