Call for PGR Presenters: Research Salon 2025-26

For any questions or suggestions, you can reach the team at researchsalon@kent.ac.uk

We hope you’ve all enjoyed a positive start to the new academic year. Following last year’s wonderfully varied programme of presentations, the PGR Salon team are once again inviting PGRs to share their research as part of this year’s Research Salon.

For those new to it, the Research Salon is a weekly, hour-long hybrid session held on Wednesdays from 4:15–5:30pm. Each week, one or more postgraduate researchers present an aspect of their work in a friendly, informal environment. It’s an excellent opportunity to practise communicating your research, receive constructive and supportive feedback, and encounter perspectives you may not have come across before.

Led by students with staff support, the Research Salon has grown into a collaborative partnership between the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University, and the University for the Creative Arts. We aim to host sessions across all three institutions throughout the year. Following her successful term as lead coordinator, Vicky Sharples has now stepped down; Louise Wigglesworth continues in her role, and we’re delighted to welcome new team members Kylie Dunleavy, Alex Brady, and Edward Braeckman.

Presentation Formats

We offer two main formats:

  • Individual Presentations
One speaker, up to 25 minutes + Q&A

  • Panels
Three to four speakers, up to 10 minutes each + Q&A
Panels may be themed or mixed depending on presenter availability.

Suggested Themes

Some of the themes we’re exploring this year include:

  • Decoloniality

  • Practice as Research

  • Space / Place

  • Theory and Methodology

  • Queer and Gender Studies

  • …and more!

These themes are intentionally broad, and you are welcome to interpret them however you choose. If your research doesn’t seem to fit any of them, please still get in touch — we’re very flexible and keen to programme as wide a range of subjects as possible.

We look forward to hearing from you and putting together another engaging year of conversation and research sharing.
