Over the last couple of weeks we’ve had a three visitors. Here’s a catch-up post:
- Chris Hooley spent 18 and 19 March 2014 visiting us. He gave a lively colloquium, (lots of audience participation!) under the title “Phases and phase transitions: old ideas and new problems“. Chris also had many discussions with Hannah, Bruno and me and also with other members of FMG (chiefly Sam Carr, who is also Chris’ collaborator).
- Adolfo del Campo also visited us that week (20-21 March 2014) and gave a very interesting, informal research seminar on phase transition dynamics.
- Finally, the following week our visitors bonanza concluded (for now!) with Claudio Castelnovo (25-26 March 2014), who also gave a colloquium, with the title “Manifestations of monopole physics in spin ice materials“. Claudio’s colloquium was very well received. His visit also gave Bruno and I the chance to spend some time discussing our joint project on monopole dynamics in spin ice.
