The 2022 Kent Staff Recognition Awards took place last night to celebrate the positive impact and achievements of staff who’ve done exceptionally well this year.

Nominees shortlisted for an award were invited to attend the evening event. Winners and runners-up for each category were awarded to:

Innovation Champion

Emma Kember, LSSJ Employability and Placements Manager, was the winner of the Innovative Champion award.  This award recognises creative individuals and teams that have delivered true innovation through outstanding projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and/or in research and teaching. In this regard, she was particularly celebrated for the excellent work that she has done to improve and support the work placements operations on the Social Work programmes in SSPSSR.

Supportive Colleague

Simon Shaw, SSPSSR Director of Education, came second for the Supportive Colleague award. This award recognises individuals who have embodied the spirit and values of the University, in particular colleagues who have demonstrated inclusivity or have gone above and beyond to connect with others by providing advice, support and help to colleagues, students or the University as a whole.

Community Ambassador

Trude Sundberg, one of the LSSJ EDI Leads, was awarded third place in the award for Community Ambassador, which honours teams or individuals who have made a positive impact on the community outside of their duties through outstanding dedication, competence, altruism, passion and citizenship. Trude’s work in support of LGBTQ+ communities was highlighted as a particular achievement in this regard.

Great Team

Claire Ashton, along with other members of the Kent Unicorns staff netball team, was awarded second place in the Great Team award that  recognises teams that have delivered an outstanding project, overcome significant challenges or gone above and beyond to deliver an outstanding service.

Dr Barabara Adewumi, Vanisha Jassal, Bridget Ng’andu were awarded third place, along with other co-chairs of the University of Kent BAME staff network, in the Great Team award.

Congratulations to all those that were nominated and awarded. It’s fantastic to see the excellent work and collegiality recognised at this event.
