Dr Triona Fitton has been awarded the Faculty of Social Sciences Teaching Prize 2018 for excellence in teaching. She was particularly commended for demonstrating innovative practice on the distance learning MA Philanthropic Studies, and having strong and interactive engagement with the students.
Each year, the University awards prizes to individual staff or teams for outstanding work in teaching and/or learning support.
As part of the Centre for Philanthropy, Triona played a key role in the design and implementation of the Centre’s successful distance learning Masters course in Philanthropic Studies, convening three of the core modules and becoming Director of Studies for the MA. She initially came to the University of Kent in 2014 to work on a research project detailing the history of philanthropic giving to the University of Kent, funded as part of the University’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. The project culminated in a book, Hidden History: Philanthropy at the University of Kent.
She is now working as part of the university-wide Student Success project team while continuing to teach on a variety of Cultural Studies and Sociology undergraduate modules.
Triona will be awarded her prize by the Vice-Chancellor at a ceremony on 3 October 2018.
