Insights into the tensions and paradoxes health systems are facing

Call for abstracts

PhD student Tom Douglass and Professor Michael Calnan are hosting a session at the 17th European Society for Health and Medical Sociology (ESHMS) Biennial Congress in June next year.

The session, entitled ‘Trust in Modern Medical Expertise: Old and New Challenges’ explores the nature of trust relations from the perspectives of both patients, in a world increasingly sceptical of experts, and professionals, who increasingly practice in contexts of uncertainty and complexity.

As one of the main events in the field of medical sociology and sociology of health and illness, this congress attracts participants from all over the world. This year’s theme, ‘Old tensions, emerging paradoxes in health: rights, knowledge, and trust’, aims to offer a forum for new insights into the tensions and paradoxes health systems are facing as a result of broad social and political transformations.

The call for abstracts is now open.
