Just published – Routledge Handbook of Risk Studies

Edited by Adam Burgess, Jens Zinn and Alberto Alemanno, this handbook begins to define risk studies through a wide ranging collection written by leading scholars in the field across disciplines, from engineering and natural sciences, to sociology and psychology. It will be an indispensable resource for the many scholars, students and professionals engaging with contemporary risk but lacking a resource that draws its elements together.

Proceeding from discussing key working concepts of risk, probability and uncertainty the book covers key established research areas such as media through to more recent and emerging concepts and areas like resilience and the visualization of risk. A specific feature is the inclusion of regulation research, and is one of a number of ways in which the Handbook seeks to go beyond existing boundaries within the field of risk-related research.

Adam Burgess is Professor of Risk Research in the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research.
