Outstanding sociology student is Kent Student of the Year

2015 Kent Student Awards

The 2015 Student of the Year is April-Louise Pennant, who has just completed her final year on the Sociology with a Year in Hong Kong course.

The University celebrates extracurricular student achievement by recognising students who go above and beyond in a number of activities and initiatives that benefit others.

Students were nominated in 13 categories this year and the overall ‘Student of the Year’ chosen from the category winners. April-Louise, nominated in two categories, was described as an exceptional student who promotes racial equality and Black culture on campus and beyond and received her awards at the Kent Student Awards Gala Dinner.

April-Louise co-founded a cultural society on her year abroad in Hong Kong and helped organise the ‘Kent Can’t Breathe’ event on the University’s Canterbury campus last year. ‘Kent Can’t Breathe’ was a silent anti-racism campaign to highlight the unlawful murders of Black men in America.
