Use and abuse of statistics workshop

This two-part workshop, at Canterbury campus, is being hosted by the University’s Q-Step Centre and will focus on crime statistics.

Open to all, the first workshop, on Tuesday 16 September from 6-8pm, will include a presentation by Alex Stevens, Professor in Criminal Justice and member of the Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs.

Attendees will be offered full copies of the research data and worksheets, detailing example statistics tests that can be used for analysis. This will be used to help publish a comprehensive report by the end of January 2015, which will be worked on in the second workshop early next year.

Participants will have the opportunity to improve their understanding of how to analyse and interpret what is often presented as ‘hard statistical facts’. The workshops will also provide an opportunity to meet other people and help build a community for studying social statistics. The workshops are open to anyone, regardless of experience or contribution.
