Critically acclaimed film at ‘Film meets Sociology’ event

'The Selfish Giant' plus discussion on the issues raised

The latest film by Clio Barnard, Reader in Film at the University of Kent, has received exceptional reviews from film critics. ‘The Selfish Giant’ is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s famous short story of the same name. Now set in a housing estate in Bradford, it tells the tale of two outcast teenage boys who get caught up in the world of copper theft.

The film will be shown on Friday 15 November at a ‘Film meets Sociology’ event at the Gulbenkian.  Following the screening, Clio Barnard and colleagues from the University’s School of Arts and School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) will discuss the aesthetic and sociological issues raised by the film.
