University research focus of Guardian feature

University research into the hopes and expectations of young people on the Isle of Sheppey formed the basis for an in-depth feature in the Guardian on Tuesday 14 May.

Conducted by Dr Dawn Lyon, of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, in a collaboration with Professor Graham Crow of the University of Edinburgh, Sheppey’s Blue Town Heritage Centre and the UK Data Service (University of Essex), the research explored the imagined futures of 110 young people through essays they produced in 2010.

The Guardian feature highlights the sense of aspirations of youngsters, despite the poor economic conditions. Read the Guardian feature  here.
