Austerity as Economic War on the Population

Peter Taylor-Gooby is a main speaker in the Strategic Society debate on ‘Policy, Psychology and the Effects of ‘Economic War’’

The debate will examine the claim that the impact of the current austerity programme is equivalent to that of a major war, and that government needs to develop appropriate coping strategies. He will argue that if austerity is war, the victims are predominantly the poorest and most vulnerable. Any coping strategy must include reinstating protection for this group.
