Dr Alex Marlow-Mann leads the International Jury for the Paladium Film Festival

Dr Alex Marlow-Mann, Lecturer in Italian, was President of the International Jury for CineMaOltre: Paladium Film Festival, which took place from the 9th-14th March 2021.

The competition, ‘Carta Bianca Dams’ saw fifteen short films produced by young and emerging filmmakers under 35-years-old from a variety of countries competing for a prize.

The winner was the French film Celestine by Marie-Stéphane Catteno. A remarkably assured and technically proficient film, which could easily be expanded into a fully-fledged feature, it provided a sympathetic, poignant but never maudlin look at ageing and loneliness.

Dr Alex Marlow-Mann says:

Dr Alex Marlowe-Mann ‘This is the second time I have participated in this wonderful and varied festival and it was a pleasure and honour to be invited to chair the jury. The shorts encompassed a wide range of genres (from drama and comedy to documentary and animation) and were of an exceptionally high quality that suggests that the cinema of the future remains in good hands’.

Dr Marlow-Mann is currently completing a monograph on The Political Thriller in Its Global Context, forthcoming from Edinburgh University Press.
