National top 10 rankings in Complete University Guide

The School of European Culture and Languages has achieved a national top 10 position in three of its subject areas in the latest Complete University Guide (2021).

The Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies has seen success in two subject areas, with a rise of eight places for Archaeology to place it 4th in the UK and a rise of five places for Classics & Ancient History to 12th in the UK.

Within the Department of English Language and Linguistics, Linguistics is ranked 9th and retains its position in the top ten in the UK. In the Department of Modern Languages, Italian retains its top five position and is ranked 3rd in the UK.

In the Department of Religious Studies, a rise of three places also sees Theology & Religious Studies ranked in the top 20 in the UK.

Commenting on the announcement, Professor Shane Weller, Head of School, said, ‘These results are a reflection of the commitment of our staff to the highest standards of teaching, research and student experience across a wide range of subject areas and I am delighted to join them in celebrating this success.’
