Welcome Week 2019

Your guide to events taking place in Welcome Week

The School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) is looking forward to welcoming over 350 new students to the University on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September, as well as welcoming back those in Stage 2 and 3 who are moving into the next year of their degrees and our existing postgraduate students.

Before the start of term, the University runs a series of events called Welcome Week, starting on Monday 16 September. There’s a timetable of events designed to help students find their feet, make friends and get to know the University. An introductory meeting for all students in the School will take place at 10.00 on Monday 16 September 2019 in Woolf College Lecture Theatre.

Hello Kent: The University and Kent Union have put together a useful guide for all new students, which explains the things students need to do before they arrive. There is information on how to activate student IT accounts, making module choices (for those who have not already done so) and an explanation of the student support and wellbeing services.

Information for SECL undergraduate students: SECL students have access to an online guide which provides information about the University and the services available in the School. Most of the things students will need to know throughout the year are found here. Students will need their Kent username and password to log in.

Student Success: The SECL Student Success Project runs workshops and events to help every student achieve their very best. The programme of events begins with a session on ‘Study Hacks’ on Thursday 19 September, 11.00-13.00, in the Templeman Library Lecture Theatre. This session is for all Stage 1 students and will provide hints and tips to make the most of university.

To find out more about what it’s like to start at Kent, students and staff alike can play the new One Hour Degree game and navigate through different university experiences. It’s a great way to get familiar with the University and everything it has to offer
