Kent Sportswoman of the Year’s karate challenge

Rebecca Barton Hagger

Kent Sportswoman of the Year Rebecca Barton-Hagger is taking part in the European Universities Combat Championships in Croatia. Rebecca, who has just completed her MA Linguistics course, was recognised at the Team Kent Awards in April as the best sportswoman at the University for her achievements in karate.

She said: ‘Winning the Team Kent Sportswoman of the Year is a huge honour – I still can’t believe it. Karate provides a good stress relief, and helps give a clear head for my studies. It is good to have a balance – the difference is massive but in a good way.’

The Combat Championships form part of a series of summer events organised across the continent by the European University Sports Association. The event will see 1300 participants from 400 universities and 35 European countries in Zagreb, the Capital of Croatia, from Wednesday 31 July to Sunday 4 August.
