Honorary Research Fellow Dr Simon Elliott, who completed his PhD in the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies, has made an appearance in The Sunday Herald, the Scottish independent newspaper, following the publication of his book Septimius Severus in Scotland: The Northern Campaigns of the First Hammer of the Scots (Greenhill Books, 2018).
‘It’s not clear if there really was a threat or if this was just the excuse to invade, but Severus made the most of the opportunity,’ explains Simon in the article. ‘These confederations had been bought off before and had become wealthy, and their elites and warriors had a taste for it and wanted more.’
