Joint study day on the First World War

The Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies are hosting a co-organised joint study day this Saturday, 14 October 2017, entitled ‘If the Kaiser Should Come: Defending Kent and the South-East during the Great War’ to examine the county’s defences in the First World War.

The event is co-organised in conjunction with the Kent Archaeological Society, and the Council for Kentish Archaeology.

Peter Kendell from Historic England will present on ‘On Land’, Professor Andrew Lambert (King’s College London) will present on ‘At Sea’ and Victor Smith (Kent Archaeological Society) will present on ‘In the Air’. Simon Mason from Kent County Council’s Heritage Conservation Group will present on ‘Emergency Planning for Invasion’.

The event begins at 2pm, and will be held in Lecture Theatre 1, Rutherford College.

Admission is free to University of Kent students with their Kent ID. For non-students, the event costs £10.
