Dr Edward Kanterian, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, has just published a new Italian-language work Corriere dell’Est [Courier of the East] (Il Saggatore, 2017), a dialogue with European writer Norman Manea.

Manea was born in 1936 in Romania, and was deported to a Nazi concentration camp at the age of 5. He published his first novel in 1966 and has been devoted to writing since 1974. He has won numerous literary prizes including the Prix Médicis Étranger and is the first Romanian writer to be granted the American McArthur Fellowship.

Corriere dell’Est is the result of 12 years of correspondence between Edward and the writer, with the resulting dialogue combining memoir, literary essay and autobiography. It covers Manea’s journey from Bucharest, to New York via Berlin, with anecdotes about Saul Bellow and Philip Roth, and reflections on contemporary America.
