The Department of Religious Studies is delighted to announce that Professor Yvonne Sherwood is to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Oslo.
The Oslo Faculty of Theology proposed her for the doctorate in recognition of her research in Religious Studies. As well as hosting a lecture with Professor Thomas Kaufmann, who will also receive an honorary doctorate from the university, Yvonne will give an address on behalf of the new honorary doctors at the University Aula.
Yvonne has been involved with Oslo University as an external examiner for PhD vivas, a research collaborator and a seminar leader. Her most recent book is Biblical Blaspheming: Trials of the Sacred in a Secular Age (Cambridge University Press, 2012).
The degree is to be conferred by the Rector Ole Petter Ottersen at a ceremony on 1 September 2017.
