Child migration ballads to feature on Radio 2

he Ballads of Child Migration, a collection of music that was commissioned to coincide with a V&A Museum of Childhood exhibition, ‘On Their Own: Britain’s Child Migrants‘, curated by Professor Gordon Lynch from the Department of Religious Studies, will be performed at the Royal Albert Hall on the 5 April 2017, as part of the ceremony for the annual BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

The Ballads of Child Migration is a collection of folk songs produced by John Leonard, drawing on material from Gordon’s book on the subject, to express different aspects of former child migrants’ experiences and was used by the Museum of Childhood to enhance aspects of their exhibition.

The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards celebrate outstanding achievements within the field of folk music from the previous year, and raise the profile of folk and acoustic music. The awards have been given annually since 2000.
