PhD student on swearing on BBC Radio Kent

Vicky Ward, a PhD in Linguistics student in the Department of English Language & Linguistics, was interviewed on the Julia George programme on BBC Radio Kent earlier in the month about research on the levels of swearing by women.

The topic is relevant to Vicky’s research, with her thesis provisionally titled ‘Obscene Language: A Diachronic Perspective’, under the supervision of Dr David Hornsby.

Countering the interviewer’s sensationalism with some common sense, Vicky pragmatically states in the interview: ‘I don’t think there’s any reason why women should swear less than men.’
