Following on from the publication of his first book, Sea Eagles of Empire (The History Press, 2016), PhD student Simon Elliott was interviewed on the podcast Dan Snow’s History Hit on 25 September.
The podcast is the number one download in the history category on iTunes. The show is presented by broadcaster Dan Snow, who is also known for presenting BBC1’s The One Show and Britain’s Lost World.
In the podcast, Simon talks to Dan about the Classica Britannica, a provincial naval fleet of ancient Rome. ‘The maritime component was a vital aspect of the Roman Empire’, says Simon, ‘often overlooked.’
In Sea Eagles of Empire, Simon explores the story of this famed naval force, through the reigns of several Roman emperors, discussing the important role it played in military campaigns all across Europe and in policing the waters of the Roman Empire in Britain.
