Alumnus Christian Moretti publishes second novel

Christian G Moretti, an alumnus from the Department of Comparative Literature, has just published his second novel L’Attesa delle Isole [The Wait of the Islands], published by Italian publisher Edizioni Croce.

The Wait of the Islands tells two intertwined stories that span a period of over 40 years. One strand is a historical portrait of the Tremiti Islands, a small archipelago in the Adriatic Sea that was home to a penal colony that imprisoned those convicted of homosexuality prior to the Second World War. The poor conditions on the islands left a scar on those who experienced life in the colony, such as Matteo, who lived through the Fascist period.

The second story is that of Michele, son of Matteo, who, after the death of his father, is forced to emigrate to Ireland with his mother. There he lives a hidden love story with his partner Niall, in a country where homosexuality was still illegal and punishable by jail.

This is Christian’s third book, following his PhD in Comparative Literature in 2013, he published his thesis in January as Conversations with the Self (Troubador, 2015), and his first novel Che Morte non vi Separi (Europa Edizioni, 2015) last year.
