Dr Benjamin Vis, Research Fellow in the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies, will be featuring on the BBC Radio 4 programme In Our Time, hosted by presenter Melvyn Bragg on Thursday 10 March 2016 at 9am.

Benjamin will be discussing the Maya Civilisation, which flourished in central America from around 2,000 BC until the Spanish conquest and developed great cities such as Chichen Itza, Tikal and Caracol with advances in mathematics, architecture and astronomy.

The Maya Civilisation is a focus of Benjamin’s current comparative urban research. This includes the development of an AHRC Research Network to explore how the development and sustainability of the Maya urban tradition may profitably influence contemporary city design.

The programme will be available on the BBC’s iPlayer upon broadcast, and will be accessible from the following link: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b072n5x3. Ben’s interview appears 12.05 minutes into the programme.
