Professor Amalia Arvaniti, Head of the Department of English Language & Linguistics, has just received a further year’s funding from the Academy of Korean Studies for her research project ‘An Experimental Investigation of Prominence and Rhythm in Korean’. Professor Arvaniti is the primary investigator collaborating with Dr Hae-Sung Jeon from the University of Central Lancashire.

The AKS was established in 1978 to encourage and expand the field of Korean Studies by conducting in-depth research, supporting international academics and researchers.

The project tests hypotheses based on Amalia’s previous cross-linguistic research on rhythm, and is informed by Hae-Sung’s results on Korean prosody. The AKS have funded a further year of the project for a total of $20,000.
