Professor Karla Pollmann, Head of Classical and Archaeological Studies, will give a lecture in Sweden at the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters in Stockholm, as part of a conference held there on ‘Reading Late Antiquity’, 8-9 May.

On 8 May, Professor Pollmann will present her interdisciplinary research on the reception of early Christianity, namely the tendency to make use of religious thought, in this case of Christian origin, for secular contexts and purposes. She will illustrate this new pattern which has never before been investigated systematically, by drawing on contemporary examples from the areas of political and economic theory, literature, postmodern philosophy, psychotherapy and semiotics.

This research is integral part of the scholarly approach and interests promoted by the Centre for Early Christianity and Its Reception, which is directed by Professor Pollmann.
