Research award for critical edition on HC Artmann

Das Deutsche Literaturarchiv Marbach

Dr Heide Kunzelmann from the Department of German has won funding from the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach [German Literary Archive Marbach] for her project to compile a critical edition of the correspondence of Austrian Avant-gardist poet Hans Carl Artmann (1921-2000) and his major publishers in Germany, Suhrkamp and Piper, written in German.

The German Literary Archive in Marbach is one of the most important literary institutions worldwide and aims to promote knowledge of original sources and to awaken joy in literature. Its collections provide a wealth of precious sources of literary and intellectual history and include the correspondence of HC Artmann, which Heide will have access to in summer 2015 for her research.

The project  builds on Heide’s previous research on HC Artmann’s poetic practice to exploit the authorial subject as a true representation of his person by creating a third, autofictional space in which fictional parameters seem to inform and impact reality. In the envisaged edition, the letters will therefore be treated as both, a very real manifestation of instances of professional practice on the literary market and as documents situated in his third, semi-fictional space.
