Religious Studies at the University of Kent has been ranked 7th in the UK in the 2014 national Research Excellence Framework exercise. Its public impact activities were top-ranked across all Religious Studies submissions for the proportion of work graded world-leading or internationally excellent, and all elements of its research environment were also graded world-leading or internationally excellent. The high ranking builds on a period of sustained growth in the Department’s research staff, research income, and funded doctoral studentships, with strong strategic support given by the School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) and the University’s senior management. With Religious Studies also ranked 5th in the country in the 2014 National Student Survey, the REF2014 exercise has confirmed the Department of Religious Studies at Kent as one of the leading religious studies departments in the UK, specialising in interdisciplinary, cultural, and critical approaches to the study of religion.
