Two PhD students from the Department of Classical and Archaeological Studies are to speak at a prestigious work-in-progress seminar organised by the Institute of Classical Studies (ICS).

The ICS is the national centre for the promotion and facilitation of research in Classics and related disciplines throughout the UK and abroad. Every year it organises a Postgraduate Work-in-Progress Seminar, with proposals for papers invited from advanced PhD students. Two students from Kent were successful at this competitive selection process, and will present their research at this autumn’s seminars.

Alistair Donaldson will talk on the 24 October 2014 on his research entitled Imperium et regnum: The Influences of Hellenistic Kingship on the Ideology of Authority in the Roman Republic’, supervised by Dr Csaba La’da.

Thomas Goessens will talk on the 21 November 2014 on his research entitled Double Identities in the Inscriptiones Christianae Urbis Romae Nova (ICUR): New Perspectives for Digital Epigraphy‘, supervised by Professor Ray Laurence.

Congratulations to Alistair and Thomas and to their supervisors for representing our postgraduate community.

The seminars will be held in Senate House, Room 243, on the second floor, at 4:30pm on the respective Fridays. Any enquiries can be directed to the chairs: postgradwip@gmail.com
