Gordon Lynch, Michael Ramsey Professor of Modern Theology from the Department of Religious Studies, spoke on BBC Radio 4’s Sunday programme on Sunday 13 July at 7:10am.

Sunday features discussions of religious topics, including religious stories currently in the news and is regularly presented by Edward Stourton.

Gordon talked on the changes in cultures of deference, following the announcement by Parliament this week of a public review into child abuse in public institutions. The programme explored what this suggests about our shifting public moral attitudes and greater willingness to hold institutions and celebrities to account. This relates to Gordon’s on-going research about a range of schemes run by Christian organisations that separated children from their families and home communities and that have since become the focus of public moral censure.

The broadcast is available online, with Gordon’s introduction about 12 minutes in: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0495lln
