The Department of English Language & Linguistics is pleased to announce its new MA programme for the 2014/15 academic year, Applied Linguistics for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), is now open for applications.

The MA is aimed at teachers who are at the beginning of their careers and those who have more experience but would like to develop, deepen and enhance their knowledge, skills and practice.

Dr Michael Hughes, director of the new MA, described the potential the programme offers: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for practising teachers to learn more about how language works, apply it to their teaching and improve their teaching skills.’

The programme covers the areas of linguistics that inform classroom practice (such as syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics and phonetics), raising awareness of these fields and applying them to TESOL practice.
