Catalan lector wins literary criticism prize

Dr Jaume Silvestre, Language Lector in Catalan in the Department of Hispanic Studies, has just been awarded the XII Premi d’estudis lingüístics i literaris, by the Valencia Higher Education consortia.

The prize has been given for his book L’obra narrativa de Ferran Torrent (Universitat d’Alacant University Press, 2013), which is the published version of Jaume’s PhD thesis under the supervision of Dr Antonio Lázaro-Reboll at Kent. The book concerns the writing of the Ferran Torrent, one of the most popular thriller writers, whose work is published in both Catalan and Spanish.

The Premi d’estudis lingüístics i literaris is given by the Institut de Filologia Valenciana, which comprises of the Catalan Studies departments within the universities of Valencia, Alacant and Castelló. The prize is awarded biannually in several categories: fiction, children’s literature, performing arts, cultural promotion, and literary criticism. Jaume will be receiving the prize for the latter category at a ceremony on 8 May.
