Sophia Labadi to talk at the V&A Museum of Childhood

Dr Sophia Labadi, from the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies, will be giving at talk at the V&A Museum of Childhood in London tonight, 3 December.

The title of her talk will be ‘Neo-colonialist Representations, Silencing and Re-Appropriations in National Museum of the History of Immigration, France’. In it she will chart the conflicting processes and decisions at play in the translation of the aim of the Cite Nationale de l’Histoire de l’Immigration, Paris (CNHI) into the museography and interpretation of the collections. She will also critique the usages made of the heritage space, particularly its occupation by illegal workers for four months from October 2010 to January 2011.

Sophia’s talk forms part of the Museum of Childhood’s ‘The Child in the World’ seminar, which is focusing on ‘Conflict and Migration in Museums’.

The seminar will run from 5.30pm to 7pm and is free to attend.
