Poster presentation success for Classics postgrads

The 3rd Annual Postgraduate Research Festival took place at Kent on 18 June 2013 with postgraduate students from all three Faculties presenting 40 posters in total on areas of their research.

Of the ten posters presented from the Faculty of Humanities, five were from Classical & Archaeological Studies students, with doctoral student Paula Lock winning first prize for her poster on ‘Roman Taverns and Inns’.

Very many congratulations to Paula on her excellent success.

The four other poster presentations were:

  • Lynne Bennett,
Formulae in Roman Epitaphs: A New Perspective using Quantitative Spatial Epigraphy
  • Thomas Goessans,
Christian Families in a Changing World: Ageing and Family Structures in Rome (300-700 AD): A Study of the Epigraphical Evidence
  • Amy Hammett,
The Clay Balls of Ancient Egypt
  • Georgina Sheeran,
    The Stepmother in Latin Rhetoric

Incoming Head of Classics, Professor Karla Pollman, said of the event: ‘When I looked at the posters I was amazed both by the strong quantitative and qualitative presence of Classics. Warm congratulations to all, and of course also warm thanks to the supervisors who supported their students in doing this!’

So thank you to all of the participants, who produced excellent posters and put on impressive presentations.
