Internationally recognised syntactician to visit Kent

The Kent Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (KIASH) is pleased to announce a week of activities with Professor Jason Merchant (University of Chicago), who will be visiting the University of Kent from 17 to 21 June 2013.

Professor Merchant is an internationally recognised syntactician who has written widely and influentially on VP-ellipsis, sluicing, sentence fragments, A’-movement and islands. He will be giving a series of talks on comparatives (18 June), allomorphy (19 June), and deep and surface anaphora (20 June). His talk on the nature of explanation in linguistics (19 June) is part of the SECL Distinguished Lecture Series and is addressed to the general public.
