New cartoon from Classics & Archaeology

Professor Ray Laurence has completed work on a follow-up to his TED-Ed cartoon ‘A Glimpse of Teenage Life in Ancient Rome’, which has been watched by over 180,000 people so far.  The cartoon produced in collaboration with Cognitive Media, based in Folkestone, and has resulted in both the University and Cognitive Media being shortlisted for a Canterbury Culture Award in the category ‘Commercial Collaboration‘.

Part II is entitled ‘Four Sisters in Ancient Rome’. Ray explained the rationale behind the follow-up cartoon: ‘The second animation was made in response to requests of viewers of an earlier one that they wanted to know what life was like in Rome for young girls and a simple desire to have another animation on Rome.’  Ray also wanted to present his academic work on Roman betrothal to a wider public, and combined this aspect with his research on children’s graffiti in Pompeii. He also pulls in a further aspect of his research – movement in the city of Rome. In the first 24 hours from release over the internet, over 10,000 people have viewed this new cartoon.
