Amalia Arvaniti to present at Glasgow

Head of English Language & Linguistics at SECL, Professor Amalia Arvaniti, will be giving a talk at the University of Glasgow’s School of Critical Studies on 7 March 2013. Entitled ‘Speech rhythm production and perception from a cross-linguistic perspective’, Professor Arvaniti’s  talk will  present an overview of her research on speech rhythm across a range of languages, including English, German, Greek, Italian, Korean and Spanish. She will discuss the implications of her findings for cross-linguistic comparisons, and for our more general understanding of speech rhythm, its nature, role in speech and cross-linguistic basis.

Professor Amalia Arvaniti was previously Professor of Linguistics at the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on the production and perception of prosody, particularly of rhythm and intonation, and uses experimental means to test linguistic models of sound structure.
