At least five students from the developing world will be awarded scholarships from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to support their studies for a master’s degree in Heritage Management at the University of Kent’s centre in Athens.
The SNF, which helps fund organisations and projects that are expected to achieve a broad, lasting and positive social impact, will offer an average of 5 scholarships each year for the next three years. The scholarship will be awarded to students from developing countries, including those in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America, and will be offered on the basis of academic merit and background. The scholarship will go towards half or full fees, whilst a comprehensive scholarship, which includes fees and living expenses, will also be offered.
Dr Evangelos Kyriakidis, academic lead for the Athens-based course, said: ‘We are delighted to announce the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Scholarship for the MA in Heritage Management as part of the developing world programme. We are honoured to work with such a diligent foundation as the SNF.
‘The scholarship programme is designed especially to help excellent students from developing countries to study Kent and AUEB’s (Athens University of Economics and Business) dual MA in Athens. It is our ambition to help these students empower their countries to manage their heritage more effectively and render it as the cultural, educational, and sustainable development resource it deserves to be.’

The MA in Heritage Management is an intensive postgraduate programme across one and a half academic years. It uniquely combines the worlds of archaeology and business and is taught collaboratively between the University of Kent and AUEB. The programme is taught in an area of world-class archaeological significance at Elefsina, near Athens.
