The Sunday Times University Guide is published every year to coincide with the beginning of UCAS applications for the next academic year. It is designed to be the ultimate guide to UK Universities and presents a good over-all picture of various universities in the form of a league table.
The league table gives scores for a number of categories which contribute to an overall score, which can be compared to the previous year’s result. This year Kent came 28th out of 122 UK Universities, which is a fantastic achievement and a rise of 9 places on last year.
Kent’s scores represent a good all-round score, with good results in many areas. However one area that we really excelled in this year is that of Employability. The Times have praised the Employability Points scheme, saying that “The EPS (Employability Points Scheme) provides tangible evidence to prospective employers of the skills acquired by students further to their degrees.”1.
Further evidence from the Times shows that the average graduate starting salary for a Kent graduate is £19,677, and that only a minuscule 7.6% of graduates are unemployed 6 months after graduation.
Other areas in which Kent excelled includes the student satisfaction rating, as 91% of all Kent students are satisfied with the Kent experience as a whole2. The teaching statistics also show that there are small class sizes with 14.6 students per staff member, and the teaching excellence at Kent received a score of 79.4%. The research quality at Kent also received a highly respectable score of 69%, which shows that Kent is very much a research-led institution which influences much of the cutting edge teaching here.
