Three PhD scholarships commencing in 2020 at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) have been shortlisted for funding by the ARIES/NERC Doctoral Training Partnership. The projects are as follows:
- How does supplemental feeding effect demography and reproductive fitness in endangered bird species on Mauritius? supervised by Professor Jim Groombridge.
- After the gold rush: verterbrate communities in abandoned goldmines and implications for restoration supervised by Dr Jake Bicknell.
- Patterns and process in population trends of UK herpetofauna supervised by Dr Nick Isaac (Centre for Ecology and Hydrology) with Professor Richard Griffiths.
The successful students will receive a comprehensive training experience, covering a broad range of analytical skills including Bayesian statistical techniques for spatio-temporal modelling using citizen science data, as well as transferable skills including stakeholder engagement and knowledge exchange.
There will be a two-stage interview process. The first round of interviews will take place on the 31st January 2020 at the University of Kent. Successful nominees will then participate in the second round of interviews, with the Aries panel, on 18th/19th February 2020 (venue TBC).
